Ho Sen Ken Xiao is a composer, violinist, and mandolinist currently studying at the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA). As a composer, he is a fellow of the LA Philharmonic Composer Fellowship and a private student of Yiming Wu. He has also received instruction from other composers including Andrew Norman, Thomas Kotcheff, and Derrick Skye. Ho Sen Ken is the alternate apprentice composer for NYO-USA 2026 and won third place in the International Eduards Balsys Composer Competition, which included the premiere of In Pieces for flute, marimba, and piano at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius; broadcast internationally by Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT). He has also received 1st at MusicTeacherGifts.com’s 13th Annual Music Composition Competition and Music Teachers Association of California’s Composers Today in 2025, scoring full marks in every evaluation category. Recently, he was featured on Downbeat Magazine, winning their 49th High School Honor Outstanding Composition award. His orchestral work driftwoods was premiered at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in May 2026 by the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra as a part of the American Dances & Movement concert program.
